Poet “Ghanimat” (Good Fortune) wrote in the second half of the seventeenth century and was employed by a provincial chieftain during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (died 1707). His reputation is based on Nai Rangi i-Ishq, the masnavi (narrative poem), which continued to be used as a text in madrasas (Muslim schools) until the nineteenth century. The poem recounts the love story of the metaphorically named Aziz and Shahid.
